    breeding limousin cow

Who made who first choice, depending on what the cow is made like I think Pale Face could be an interesting way to go.  I'd shy away from the pb simmi bulls on a limi cow.  Depending what your end goal is - breeding heifer, show steer, show heifer - the angus bulls he should have available would...

Cracked corn vs. Steamed rolled corn?

Barley can be substituted for corn, most of our rations up here use more barley with some corn, the barley builds a little different type of fat than corn.  The way it was told to me is that corn fat is "harder". Think corn is hard to find in Oregon come to the Canadian prairies, and I've never...

    I'm Confused

Been thinking the same thing, didn't see much effort put into advertising the fact that only half the bulls he originally advertised as being available to us lowly Canadians were actually available.  Guess I won't be getting that Breed Lautner flag after all!!

    Aluminum Livestock Trailers...Opinions Please

You said probably one of the most important things - riveted trailer.  They take the gravel and off road abuse better than the welded ones.

Selecting AI Sires -- a search for recommendations

I know its not the hot new, sexy pick but I've had luck with All About You on Limi and Limi/Angus females.  They've made some good steers and IMO really good females.  The draw back there is the THC factor.  Simple Math is a bull I think would be interesting on Limi influence cows.  I'd shy away...

    Eye Candy

Had heard rumor in December that Eye Candy had broke a leg.  After not hearing any more after that figured it was just purely gossip.  Now if semen is jumping kinda makes me wonder.

    Question for Canadians

We have a 40x60 "calving barn" that was built almost 20 years ago when we were still in the purebred business and calving in Jan/Feb.  Now it stores the chore tractor most of the winter.  It's not insulated/heated, just a couple pens and a hot box for when we get those nasty March cold snaps.

First calf from a Club Calf bull - Thoughts?

Not to hijack the thread but the foot tapes don't exactly work great on the clubby calves.  Something about those big feet and small bodies, thats not real accurate.

    Custom hauling

Sounds a little steep to me, cost me 450/head to get em a 1000 miles.  At your rate that would cost me over a grand and no way would I pay that.  Just having a truck and trailer don't make you a trucker, if your gonna do it properly your gonna need commercial plates, cargo insurance, and I'm...

    Speckle Park inDenver

[  I find winning the carcase component 7 out of the last 12 years, and having taken out 6 of the top 10 in 2011, far more appealing than looking pretty in the show ring. After all, how they hang up is what this business is all about. If the scoring system that is used for Calgary was based...

    Speckle Park inDenver

That is a bit of an exaggeration, I would hardly call winning the carcass competition at Calgary for a few years being dominant in the show steer thing.  Get back to me after they win some live shows in the ring - and winning the Speckle Park class at the Stampede Classic doesn't count.

    Highliner

Breed him to a good cow you'll get a good calf.  My experience don't expect him to improve anything, bred him to two cows that needed their legs shorted a little and a little more muscle neither goal accomplished.  Bred him to another smaller framed flatter muscled cow got a smaller, flatter...

    Color Guru's question

I've found that those brown coloured calves will blacken up when they shed out then have that colour come back again as they hair up for winter.  The Chi's and Limi's seem to be the ones around here that have that problem, I've never thought it was a big deal.
