    THE FAIRNESS POLICE

Wow this topic has some strong opinions and rightly so.  I will start off saying I just finished my Jr. career so my experience is limited but recent, and honestly I think many arguments on this topic are laughable.  The 'fairness' being strived for is purely idyllic and unrealistic.  Just...

    Depth Charge VS beet pulp

Mainly its the taste.  Cattle at least seem to love DC but not so much FT.

    Melatonin?

I have never heard of an animal being thrown out for Melatonin use even when drug tested.  Calf Calm or Ace would likely work better but may not be allowed depending on the regulations within the county.  Melatonin works well and the best is you can use it daily.  Like vc said start them on 100...

    Igenity vs. Pfizer HD50k tests

I only know a little about these tests and was wondering about the effectiveness compared to each other.  I know the HD 50k uses 54,000 markers and I'm guessing Igenity uses fewer because of the price difference.  However, will the HD 50k test allow the animals EPD accuracies to be considerably...

    Flushing Angus Cow...Any Suggestions?

SAV Brilliance would be a very good option.  But if she throws them pretty anyways and you want power Net Worth is one of the more consistent power producers that work in industry and showring.

Best put down a Judge has used

This isn't really a slam but it does show some real judging humor.  My little cousin her first year had a terrible calf, absolutely terrible.  He was super quiet and fed well he was just one of those calves that grew up, up, up and never out.  Well she asked what to say for questions in the...

Penn State Block & Bridle Prospect Sale

To Any Who Needs a Showsteer or Heifer, Once again the Penn State Block and Bridle club is hosting a commission prospect steer and heifer show/sale. History shows that these calves can win all over and quality has increased each year. This year we are once again having 30-35 steers and up to 10...

    McKean Angus Bull Sale-April 22

Well the sale went great. Our best sale to date. I don't have all the info just what I was told when I called shortly after the sale but bulls averaged just over $2500 with a high of $5000. Heifers sold in the $1400 range mostly and pairs in the $2000's. Just an update for the curious

The use of EPD's in the show ring.

This is news to me. I've shown Angus my whole life and never been to a show nor heard of one where EPD's were judged or mentioned in reasons. And I know some top show cattle in Angus have very poor EPD's but through feeding and preparation those cattle look great for showing and then don't...

    A Glimpse at the Future?

The shortie plus was 2nd high seller I believe. I'm pretty sure an Angus sold half interest for $17k and then doubled money for full interest. Correct me if I'm wrong I might be mixing up sales in my head.

This Friday is the sale. There have been a few calls because of this post and thank you because now my dad realizes how beneficial a website will be.

The craziest thing you have seen at a cattle show

I have two. I haven't read them all and this might have been done but this real dressed up lady walked behind a show calf at the county fair.  The calf was a little loose and coughed just as she walked behind.  Needless to say she was far from happy and the owners weren't anywhere to be found...
