Our county fair satarts August 7th.. Here is a pic of my son's Maine...Would like to get opinions on how he looks and what else can we do.  Son is finally hoping this one will be in the top of his breed.

Tuesday the 9th is fair and 2 weeks ago we only had 10lbs to gain and our steer lost 20lbs through the 112 degree heat..... Its so sad ..... our fair here in Leavenworth Ks has 2 things you have to make.. 1000lbs plus 1.8 lbs per day... We got the 1000lbs but he needs 30lbs more to make the...

Well all I can do is keep feeding him and hope he is 30-50 over what he needs to be so we have a little leeway....

We weigh in the same time we bring to the fair...Its from like 7 am to 11 am... we haul to the grounds which is like 2 miles from my house then we just unload and weigh.... Not too much of a wait either... So probably around 30 min to 45 min at the most.. Why?

I want to thank eveyone who put in their ideas on how to get our steer well and to make weight for the fair.  We are 2 weeks till fair and he weighed today at 1024lbs.. He needs to be at 1030lb for fair.. I think we will be just fine....This site has helped out sooo sooo much...Thanks again...

Okay thanks again to everyone who has belped me in the last month.. we are 2 weeks from fair and we weighed and he is at 1024...That is at a regular scale for cattle.  We need to be at least at 1030lbs... I think we will make it... Thanks and everyone have a wonderful fair!!!!

Well were at 19 days till fair.... He is feeling alot better.. Been on the probiotics and now eating hay pretty good... Eating around 15-18 lbs of grain a day also... Been keeping him as cool as we can with fans and rinsingin him off with water... He is a picky one though... Have to keep flufing...

Gave him probiotics and now eating hay again... Yes something was wrong with his stomache and we had to just work with him... He is now eating hay and up to 15lbs of grain a day... Hoping to go higher on the grain but happy he is doing better... 19 days till fair.

yes he said to use the probiotics...Not totaly sure whats wrong thinks its a stomache problem of some sor.  This morning woke up to the runs with him.  This month has been hell

No dont beleive we were pushing him at all...We think maybe he got sick with the first heatwave we had first part of July.  Will try that power full we are using the viaferm champ in his feed and he does eat some.  Tried molases but doesnt like sweet stuff.. who knows keep on trying

Had a older post where I needed to gain 100 lbs in a month to make weight.  At our county fair in kansas we have to make 1000lbs  plus 1.8 bs per day.... Our steer was doing great till last part of June and then nothing.. As of July 11 he weighed 940lbs.  He stopped eating much and stopped...

Ok all im at what 24 25 days till fair.. We have a severe HEAT warning out for like all week I think and last night after son walked and worked with him we gave him fresh water, grain which included the vitaferm and fresh hay... He did start eating hay and ate some of the grain rob around 7 9...

How much, what kind of condition is it in and I live in KC area how does this work on exchanging money and getting it to me? Melissa

Started on Vitaferm for his feed on Thursday and gave him a bolus also that day... The hay is freshly bailed.  Were in Kansas so its whatever was bailed.  Just eats ony 3-4 pounds of feed a day and some water.. Need to gain 90 lbs by August 9th.. Will keep trying
