Happy Birthday Red! Share a Memory!

I remember when I was going through some health issues and Red texted or emailed me every day checking on me until I was through it and in the clear.  Was planning on finally meeting her face to face at the NAILE.  Every year when it rolls around I remember Red and our missed opportunity.  She...

    My Turn heifer

Cocky fits her to a T. She has always had that heads up, look at me attitude. But she has one of the best personalities of any calf I've ever worked. Fourth time on the halter I took her to the vet to be dehorned. Not one goofy moment, even during the surgery. The vet even commented about how...

    My Turn heifer

Couldnt resist an update to the baby pic I posted the day she was born.  She has grown into all we hoped for and since she is only 6-7 months right now I can't wait to see the finished product.  The second picture is a fat butt heifer that Caitlin showed two weeks ago.  Didnt think to get a pic...

    Looks good!  What's he weighing?

    My Turn heifer

I'll get some pics of the fat butts in the next couple of days. Like I said, we think the heifer is one of the better heifers we've had, until princess fluffy butt arrived!  The fat butt heifer is really nice though, pretty sure she will be a member of Caitlin's "Fat Girls" showstring!

    My Turn heifer

The cow is a 1/4 blood simmental out of a Meyer 734/Traveler 23-4 bull and OCC Anchor cow.  Moderate framed, easy fleshing.  Always puts a keeper heifer on the ground.  Had a friction heifer last year that our daughter is showing this year.  Always had good calves but nothing of this caliber. ...

    My Turn heifer

This little girl graced us with her presence Wednesday morning.  The rear view was a pic I took the day she was born, umbilical cord was still wet.  The other two were taken this morning when she was showing off for us.  She is by far one of the best heifers we have ever had, I can lay my hand...

    Indiana tornados

Hello steerplanet friends. First I want to thank everyone who has sent messages checking on us.  We literally dodged a bullet. When we get electric back I'm going to measure on google earth exactly how close. It's been a matter of debate between my husband and I!  I have video from his parents...

I know I haven't posted in a long time but couldn't resist, I HAD TO BRAG!!!

This is our second year showing pigs, this gilt fell into her lap as we bought her to be a buddy pig to a barrow.  We keep pinching ourselves because we must be dreaming.

    Feelings on WAGR Dream Catcher?

We've had 4 dreamcatchers, one bull and two heifers.  The bull went to the yards when weaned because he was just an ordinary calf, would've been a good fat but our daughter only shows heifers and we don't have much of a steer market.  The two heifers we kept in the herd.  The only gripe we have...

Any thoughts on what might have done this (gruesome) ***Updated***

Get a donkey.  We have coyotes bad in our area.  Havent lost a calf since we put the donkey in the field with the cows.  She is a little miniature donkey also, doesn't matter, will keep anything out of the field that doesn't belong

Best New MATERNAL BULL @ 2011 NWSS

It says REG angus not RED.  As in registered angus.  Maternal grandmother is a 6807 daughter who is a black angus.

Best New MATERNAL BULL @ 2011 NWSS

That is the correct pedigree.  Just saw him in his working clothes the other day.  Doesn't look a whole lot different from when he was in the show ring.  Little bigger it seems is all.  But they always look bigger when they are out of the show barn.

    clippers

Laubes are about the best there are.  Yes they are more expensive but they run at over twice the speed of any other clipper on the market and don't get hot in your hand.

    True Grit

How could I forget Rio Bravo with Ricky Nelson and Dean Martin singing.  Love that one so much I have "My rifle, my pony and me" downloaded on my ipod

Don't leave out Rooster Cogburn and McLintock!  We keep meaning to go see the new one but being diehard John Wayne movie fans don't know if its gonna measure up.  I'm afraid I'll keep comparing it to the old one.

    Building you own grooming chute?

AMEN!  One thing I would add to that though is don't put a partially broke calf in any grooming chute, especially an aluminum one, they can get torn up easily.  If you want to use the chute because they won't let you comb something or won't stand still then you need to go back to the basics and...
