    Shorthorn Junior Nationals 2014???

I don't know why the Kentucky Tourism website would have it on there if it wasn't a for sure thing with a signed contract that it was going to be in Louisville. That's what i would bet my money on.

    Shorthorn Junior Nationals 2014???

On the Kentucky Tourism Website it says that Shorthorn Junior Nationals 2014 will be held in Louisville June 23-29, 2014. I just did a Google Search and it came up. How about we get through this year's Jr. Nationals first! lol

    Breeding question

Well, it's way to early to know that they are "safe". Last year, we had 3 cows that we didn't see in heat for 3 cycles. We had out the vet, and he said they were open. That they weren't cycling and they weren't cystic. Sometimes cows don't cycle. Best bet is have them checked. It can be...

    genetic advice

So NH is a recessive disorder. If you breed her to a clean bull here are your chances: 50% carrier and 50% clean. No calves will "have" the disorder (the are simply carriers). Just like curly calf, th, pha, etc.

    Ziptie a tail

Why would ring officials tell the public that it "deadens" the tail, when they could have just told them it makes them not swing their tail around? To the public it's a lot about wording and you just need to watch how you put things. Telling them the later is not a lie, it is completely honest...

    Lice

If you decide on Ivermectin (which we have good luck with) make sure you switch it up with something else that has a different active ingredient in it, every other time you delouse your cattle, otherwise the lice seem to build up a resistance to it. You should really do it with all pour-ons.

Are Donkeys good for breaking show cattle?

x^2. All good info and that's pretty much how our calves were started on the donkeys. Don't just go out and buy any donkey thinking they will work though. Just like some calves aren't meant to be show calves, some donkey's aren't meant to be breaking donkeys.

Are Donkeys good for breaking show cattle?

It just depends on the individual donkey. After having two wild heifers (different years) and having them donkey broke, we were in love with the idea (it worked great), especially for sale calves that needed to be halter broke. So we decided to get one we thought would work. He was from a family...

Has anyone used HRF Hairy? I would like opinions on calving ease.

We raised a Hairy daughter that ended up Champion Low % Simmental at World Beef Expo in 2009 at the Open Show beating Bloomberg's good heifer that year. She was actually featured in a select sires catalog a few years ago. Ended up making a great cow. She wasn't 80 lbs when she was born, but she...

    Badger Kick-Off

Thought the heifer judge did a good job too. I was there for the entire heifer show and if at all possible his 1st and 2nds in class had to be able to get out and move, had to be fat and heavy muscled with being big boned and footed, and good bodied. He didn't seem as critical about front ends...

    ***my walks alone heifer opinions?!?!

good choice. I wouldn't reccommend him on little cows for that reason.

    The new heifer

She could be stiff just because you have her pretty fat from showing. Just a thought.

    ***my walks alone heifer opinions?!?!

Don't be a 100% surprised if she never gets big enough. Had a Walks Alone heifer that we bought off a sale that we had to ship  because she would have never been able to have a calf. I saw Walks Alone at Denver when he was there and they had him up on about 9 inches of chips and I could still...

    Sullivan vs. Weaver fitting products

We used to use exclusively Sullivan products, but have found that Weaver final mist and ProRemover work far better than the sullivan Versions and are more cost effective (compared to both Hocus Pocus and EZ-All Remover). You can't beat the Sullivan adhesives though, especially for hair that...

    3/4 Shorthorn Plus Heifer

3/4 Shorthorn Plus Heifer This is a Rage x Tin Cup 3/4 Shorthorn Heifer out of Millpond Mascara (a cow I had bought from Chad Carlson-Millpond Shorthorns). The cow was Reserve Champion Shorthorn Plus at Badger Kick Off Classic as a young May heifers and at World Beef Expo. She also was Champion...

Finally the Years of Work is Paying Off

I must say that one of the best experience and feelings ever in the show cattle industry is when you have your first sale and its successful. After starting a 4-H project several long years ago and beginning my cow herd, we had our first real sale and boy was it a success. We had calves...
