    Steer holds tail out

Hi everyone.  Our sons steer likes to hold his tail out when he is set up and being scratched or even left alone.  We quite scracthing his belly and tried his brisket but no luck.  He is relaxed and no real issues.  We try to hook it down with the show stick but it doesn't really work.  Any...

    Horned Genetics

OH put it right on the money.  Heterozygous polled x Heterozygous polled will give you 25% horned calves.  I was a bit disappointed when I got a horned MAB calf out of a polled cow.  Time to get out the Dr. Naylers!

    Thoughts on this bull.

He may have been around 17 or 18 months but honestly Im having trouble remembering.  It could have been his two year old pic.  I know its a bit silly that I can't remember.

    Rummensin question

Thank you TCF.  That is excellent information.  I think  I will back their intake up a bit until I am comfortable then get them back to where they were.

    Rummensin question

Thanks for the info everyone.  Its just dissapointing when your feed company lets you down.

Yes Oakview, he is a Salers.  I sometimes wish I had a few clubby cows to try him on, gotta make room if I do that though. lol

Thanks for the replies.  It was a 4' panel and I never measured him for frame but he wasn't tall, just a nice size.

    Rummensin question

Our kids calves have been on feed with rummensin all winter.  My  feed company dropped the ball and didn't order my feed when I ordered it and now I have a tote without rummensin.  The ration is the same except no rummensin.  Can I expect any adverse effects from this as I have heard from...

I thought I would put up a pic of one of my old bulls and see what people thought.  I believe I took this pic in the summer of 2002.

    Kicking Cows

You can try usiing your blower hose and flip that hose around to where is smacks them on the leg.  On a kicker this is most likely to get a response.  Keep doing this until they simply get tired of kicking and hitting nothing.  Do this around their flank and belly too  being careful to stay out...

    Bull Fencing

I like the electric fence ideas and was wondering, are the bulls penned individually or could you run a group of two year olds in an electric fence pen?  Will bull fights send a bull straight through the electric fence?

    Sunseeker x Heatwave Steer

To those of Steerplanet. I have a problem and hes a kicker.

When I come across a kicker this is what I do.  I get into position with the blower and blow the body as per normal within normal range of the animal.    I then keep blower contact with them but move just out of range a bit and then i will flip the hanging portion of the blower hose so that it...

Follow up ? 2 'To those of Steerplanet. I have a problem and hes a kicker'.

Watching other fitters is probably the best way to learn.  Practice on penmates as your not going to be real great at it for some time.  Fit your calf maybe a week before you go to a show if you have the time.  I still love to watch good fitters work, learn something almost every time.
