    300 pounds before January 20th

He should make 1000lb by Jan 20th.  That is 80 days at 3.15lb/day.  Assuming a 6-1 feed to lbs conversion on 22lb/day he should gain about 3.6 lbs/day.  That puts you at 1036 lbs by the 20th of Jan.  Good Luck

    recip lease

I don't know of anyone in that area but Clear Creek Farms #2 in east central Illinois has been in the recip business for 20+ years.  They will put in your embryos and then sell you the 70 day pregnancies for about $2800.  I know they have worked with customers all over the mid-west.  Give Dave a...

    CRR About Time 743 Semen

I would contact Alex at www.streamlinegenetics.com  He can probably get you some but the price of it is more than most people are willing to pay to just breed and not flush with.  Last I checked he was about $150-$200 a unit.  Buyhereford.com and some of Lowdermans auctions have semen on him as...

A Hereford question...What would be a good bull to use on a reload daughter?

I would try an About Time son. Custom Made, True Grit or Time is Money.  I had a Wideload (Reloads sire) daughter that I bred to About Time and got this dandy heifer calf.

    Interglobe Genetics

I have had good luck dealing with the University of Illinois Vet Clinic in Champaign in getting bulls collected.  Pretty reasonable cost and easy to deal with.  It has been a couple of years since they collected any for me but I assume they are still doing it.  Office # is 217-333-2000.

Yeah, that is pretty much how it works.

    Syncing After Bull Exposure

She should still work fine on that program.  If she was bull bred the lute shot will abort her and it has not been long enough for a pregnancy to affect her much at all assuming this happened in the last week or so.  Honestly, if she is cycling then I would even skip the CIDR and just lute her...

What would you flush her too?

I would second the Cracker Jack option or maybe Delhawk Kahuna.

    Best purebred herford for steers?

Excel 8051 & About Time. Although About Time is too expensive to use other than a flush. IMO

    Collection facilities near Springfield Illinois?

I've had a bull collected at the U of I vet lab in Champaign.  Good people to work with.  I took the bull to them, I don't know if they do on farm work.  Contact # is 217 333-2000.

Tips to get a heifer to claim her calf

I had a heifer calve Wednesday night and she is not letting the calf nurse.  She doesn't really go after him just keeps kicking at him and butting him away when he tries to get to her teats.  I've been tying her up and she will let him nurse but still swings a leg at him quite a bit.  First time...

Calving Date vs. AI Due Date

I have a cow that was due 2/3 to her AI date (4/26) and didn't calve until 2/16.  She had a bull calf that was about 90lbs. She went in with bull (5/2) a week after she was AIed.  What is everyone's experience with this situation?  She is a hereford cow and both AI bull and cleanup bull are...

Portable Hot Water Heater For Shows?????

Ive seen one made out of an old air compressor tank & 50ft of flex copper tubing. They cut both ends out of the tank, drilled holes on the side (front and back) and then coiled the tubing through it pushing each end of the tubing through the holes and adding fittings to connect to a garden...

    Heifer cycle question

Lute would abort them if they had been bred by that bull but if they haven't cycled yet the Lute won't bring them into heat.

    CALF HELP! quick

Wear him out a little.  Lead him around for good 20 or 30 minutes to kind of take the edge off of him.  The ones I've had like that seem to respond to a little exercise and are much easier to work with after a few trips around the farm or fair grounds.

    Recips

Call Clear Creek Farms.  Dave and Karen Steiner.  217 269-3104.  You can ship him the eggs and then pick up the pregnant recips.  I can't remeber the price but they get some pretty good cows for their recip business. www.clearcreekfarms2.com

    Help with EDP's

I've heard True Grit is an easy calver.  I hope so I used him on a heifer and some cows with BW numbers that are bigger than I would like them to be.  I guess I'll see for myself how he works this spring.

    Help with EDP's

Hereford EPD's for BW WW YW Miik and Milk & Growth are an estimate of the number of pounds above (+) or below (-) breed average that individuals progeny will perform.  You would want a lower BW number and higher WW and YW numbers.  Any bull with a Calving Ease number of 2.0 or higher and a BW...
