71 looks and no replies should tell you something. Never post a picture of a calf poorly set!  Your steer looks like may be OK, but next to impossible to make a good comment from a bad picture.

AAOK is not being hard on you but just being honest. the way he is set up does make him look like he has a few problems in his rear 1/3.  he looks weak in his pasturns and he looks to slope off from his hooks to his pins.  i think he is better than this picture. always remember, u only get 1 shot to make a 1st impression. his back foot set needs to be a lil further back. once u get him set up to look a lil more square back there, take the picture from the other side, just like the judge would be looking at him. u have the right idea with the rear foot on ur side a touch forward and the front foot on ur side needs too be a touch behind the show side front foot. i think ur steer has some good qualities. when u get the chance, take another pic and see how many replies you get.  (thumbsup)  also, whats his pedigree?

ok, where do you plan to show him?  County, jackpots, State fairs??    If you have no goals at this point, that should be your next objective.....get some goals.  :)

He looks like a good steer, he has a good looking front end and a lot of guts. The wise advice was given to me that a picture should always make the calf look better than it is, that's the point of advertising. With that being said, there are many polite ways to give that constructive criticism without saying it is impossible to give a complement based on that picture.

the constructive criticism was to take a better picture.  that way one can see if the pasterns really are forward, what his angles are, what his top line looks like, what his rump slopes like, how wide he stands behind, basically a whole host of things that are magnified in the opposite direction with a bad picture.

for me, if his top line is anything remotely like in the picture, i would fault that. he's got good hair so in a profile far away he will look nice.  up close he will look like stacey keach or joe biden in a close up.

From the picture I would say his front 2/3 are really nice.  From the picture, I would have the same questions about the rear 1/3 but also completely agree that this could totally be from way he is set.

I  agree first 2/3 of him looks good...........I think once you get his settting up nice take another picture and post it here- I have no doubt he's a nice steer, the picture does no justice  ;)  I totally understand it can be hard sometimes to get them to stand perfect those first few times...
