I know, I am sooo excited too! I am already counting down the days! This year I am showing a crossbred heifer. She is a blue roan and has some Maine and Shorthorn plus in her. I showed a Shorthorn steer last year!!! I loved him so much, especially since he was my first show calf(: I like the...
Yes, it is such a great show and a very enjoyable weekend. I love going and seeing friends and meeting new people. And I agree, last year the ice was so bad and taking the calves out to the trailers was not easy haha. Cows are not meant to ice skate! ;D
Beef Congress is my favorite show of the year and even though it is about a month away, I am already excited! It will mark my one year anniversary of showing cattle! Is anyone else on here going showin' at IN Beef Congress this year? Or have any good memories you would like to share about this...
Well he is gone now, but he did wonderful at the fair and I am so glad that he was my first show cow(steer).I couldn't have had a better animal to work with and he had the best life a show steer could have. I cried like a big baby Thursday night, but I have realized that is how it had to be. I...
I got Champion Shorthorn Steer and 5th overall in the Grand Drive. There were 11 or 12 breeds in the class and I am not sure how many steers all together in the entire fair. I am very proud of how we did considering this was my first year showing cattle. Hard work pays off and I can't wait until...
The day is getting extremely close...I am beginning to really become upset. Also I have a question...at auctions, do you show them or just stand with them as people bid? I haven't done this before, and I haven't done a very good job of spreading the news of my steer, I don't know anyone that...
I am going through the very same thing as I type this. This is my first year showing, so I have never had to sell an animal before. I am just dying! I have already cried a couple times just thinking about having to let him go. I have been trying to focus on the time we have left together and...
I had a steer this year that was pretty much exactly the same, expect rather than a brush, he hated being blown on. He also hated to be touched anywhere near his face, neck or head. All I really did was continue working him and constantly touch his face by his jaw. It is toward the end of this...
Rinse and work their hair once in the morning and once at night before turning them out. DRY THEM! I do this with my steer and he has wonderful, thick hair. We don't even use a cooler room, we just keep the fans on him all day. Drying them seems to do a good job and it makes them look better...
Yeah like everyone has said, really work the brush and the blower. Blow their hair upward. I use kleen sheen every night and it seems to be making my steer's hair look good, fee softl and come in prettyl thick. Good luck at fair, make sure you post how you do(:
Wow, I have never seen glitter on a steer before. I am sure it does really stand out but just wow. I do think it is good to be personalized and look nice and wear jewlrey and such, but as one person said you are showing the animal, not yourself. Sure, go ahead and go all out during showmanship...
We used Ace of Diamonds for the steer I have now. He is pretty decent looking. Nice weight and super easy to work with. Idk much bout genetics so sorry lol.
Honestly, I think a little bling isn't such a bad thing. I like the sparkly belts and such, but I don't think you should make your steer wear a bedazzled haltar, that is just rude! lol I am all for dressing up when showing, but there has to be a limit. They have these new showsticks out that...
Hey everyone! I was just curious if anyone knew of any good places to shop online for show clothes. Like jeans, shirts, jewlrey, belts, etc. If you know of any(the cheaper the better) please share! I haven't had much success with finding a good online store. Thanks.
