joey and rory (not cattle related)

This is a singing duet; they've got a great song out... Here's a link to the video. http://www.cmt.com/videos/joey/266100/cheater-cheater.jhtml Give it a listen...

    Treats

My steer just goes wild for the Luck & Love carrot horse treats. Carrots...My steer loves carrots. Apples, cut into sections (I guess its a choking hazard to eat them whole). I too would be interested in spoiling him some more...So keep the great ideas coming!

    Time for Flies

Perhaps you could try something more natural? I don't know how good this works but pennyroyal has been rumored to be quite effective. Here's the website: http://ecobites.com/herbal-natural-remedies/natural-animal-fly-repellent.html I have an email out to my naturopathic doctor, as I'm looking...

How's your weather across Steer Planet

wow...30 degrees. that's quite a change. It must be hard on the cows... Its supposed to 71 here tomorrow in WI. My steer is loving the weather. We haven't had any severe weather yet here. I hope those who have had it are all okay and doing well and didn't lose any cattle during the storms.

    Band or Cut

My pet steer is banded, and I certainly don't like the way it looks. Not that looks matter for a pet, but I still don't like it. I would have preferred he'd been cut; however, he wasn't mine at the time. I would ask that if you cut, or even if you band, give a little local anastethic before...

    grinding

I have heard, and am not sure how true this is, but that whe cattle grind their teeth, they are in pain. Is there something that could be causing her pain? just something for you to consider?

    steer question

Well, I definitely would not recommend SITTING anywhere near a steer that is even remotely not well-behaved. This would put the person in a very bad situation very quickly if things escalated. Something similar is happening with my steer (he's not for show, but still needs to be a nice boy). He...

    Winter calving

Dori, I was just about to comment that the last place my husband worked, we had calves in the kitchen! Now keep in mind this is a small organic dairy farm and not a beef farm, but still a calf in the kitchen is quite different  (lol) We had a couple of calves in the basement, although the one I...

    Can anyone top this guy?

I'm thinking bullock is a British term. I'd really hate to be feeding this guy if he is supposed to eat as much as Maine12 says.  I'm wondering, Maine, if this guy isn't grazing and the steer only gets 17 lbs of grain etc.? Could that explain the difference in the amount of feed? ShowHeifer, I...

    My dad- a sad story

Red, It seems that lots of folks really understand where you're coming from as do I. My grandmother has schizophrenia (has for 45-50 yrs) and some days are really bad (we choose not to remember those). I'm sure you're dad will have a few good days where it seems nothing is wrong. Remember those...

    Can anyone top this guy?

I read and looked with amazement...  :o Any idea about why he would get that large??? I'm absolutely curious as to why this happened. Any explanations???? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;jsessionid=IYFZ4PNZEL52ZQFIQMGCFFWAVCBQUIV0?xml=/news/2007/12/05/nbull105.xml

    bloat & dry laundry detergent

Detergent??? I'm not so sure I'd put something in my animal that I myself would not consume. My husband's previous boss who was an organic farmer had the best idea yet. When cows would bloat my husband was instructed to give the cow 24 ounces of vegetable oil by mouth. They didn't put it on...

    vegetable oil

The only time I've heard of veg. oil being used for cattle was to relieve bloat. I've never heard of putting it in feed, but while thinking about it; it could work. Let us know if it does.
