so we had our first oops calf! our cow shelly had a calf mid may, and somehow wound up taking to the bull again two weeks after birth! so she had a calf about three days ago-in 17°, snow and 20 mph wind. we were lucky we found her and mama let us move her into our calving barn, where we gave her lots of hay and a calf blankie. we had to help her dry off and nurse; she was a little lethargic. fortunately i got her to get a good latch and she drank for at least eight minutes. within an hour or two, she was happy and jumping around like calves do! so far she and mama are still in the barn together and both are doing well. we named her Breeze!
