For those who enjoy Yellow Tail wines

I haven't really thought out my reponse here, so don't jump all over me, but...  Humane Society has plus and minuses.  They were great when they worked with me to get my neighbors two abused (starving) horses seized.  We also have been foster "parents" to a gelding that was seized by them (only...

    help! hair dye discontinued

I don't know about others, but we dye before the "beauty" contest known as a show because it removes any red highlights, and just makes the animal look more velvetey.  We generally don't do this for the smaller "jackpot" type shows.

Does the ? mean you are not sure that it is Relvon?  Will it pass a "paper towel" test?

    help! hair dye discontinued

We have been using Roux Young Color to dye my daughter's Simmental heifer.  Show is next week... I don't have enough, product is discontinued and not able to be found ANYWHERE in driving distance.  Plan was to dye her tomorrow.  No time for a Sullivan's order.  What have other people used...

    Ft. Worth heifer champions

Be careful... Natural Stride is not labelled for breeding heifers (if I'm thinking of the right product!!!).  I thought you were going to breed her after  San Antonio or Houston????  I bought it by mistake once when I was looking for a mineral called Stride.  Sorry the show didn't turn out the...

    Music calms calves?

I don't know for cattle, but the kids raise market turkeys.  Several years ago my daughter read a study (i think from Tx A+M) that classical music increased rate/ total gain for poultry.  The study compared different types of music.  We've played it ever since and have done VERY well.

    Stangs13

Pretty much same kind of deal.  The FFA hired someone to fly in from Lubbock to clip.  Trying to be supportive ( and they said he "was good") we decided to go that route.  Anyway, in the 15 minutes it took to run to the restroom and back they had "clipped" both of our simmentals.  Bare skin...

    Stangs13

She's under a couple of fans and misters during the day, but she had a horrible clip job in October(bald!!!). Her hair seems to be coming back pretty well. She eats well (basically cleans up) and is weighing 1,000# as of the end of December.  We don't want to get her so fat that if affects...

    Stangs13

Okay, I'm attempting to post pictures.  Sorry if I didn't do it right.  Does she look like your heifer?  I think yours is a few months older (ours is a Jan. 09).  These were just casual (not blown or clipped) and heading out to pasture for the night.  She had attitude too.  We've started using...

    Stangs13

Can't go to Ft. Worth because it conflicts with the her high school musical.  I sent some recent pictures to Brian recently, and those were names that were tossed around.  I'll try to post the pictures on here later.  I will also say that my neighbor decided to breed all of his simmentals with...

    Stangs13

Just wanted to say good luck in Fort Worth.  Also, have you bred your KSSR heifer yet?  If so, to what.  We are trying to figure out what to do with our flush mate, and I was curious about what you decided to do and what you considered.  For everyone else, I obviously don't know how to do...

    Project I just finished

I would have killed for one of these during our fair last week.  What a great idea.

    Fair over!!!

Just finished Brazoria County Fair (Texas).  What a week.  Rain, cold (for us) creating mud and misery.  Followed by 102 heat index 2 days later.  Anyway, we survived.  The kids (2 this year) were successful with their projects.  All 4 turkeys were in top 10 with the best 1 ending up Reserve...

    Let's Rehash Calving Ease Bulls

If you're looking to produce "show" animals, I woiuldn't go with Built Right.  Have a purebred Simmi heifer (out of an old show cow donor) that we are actually showing/ selling as a commercial heifer.  Too plain to do well in the show ring.

    FOR FUN

Know someone (not real well) who was a hardworking couple.  She had been a teacher.  Anyway, a few years ago, they actually won.  After taxes and lump sum distribution they were left with about 17 million.  He went back to school.  She quit her job.  They have had 2 kids.  Neither works outside...

My eldest daughter did illegal immigration and the horselaughter issue.  My other daughter did steroid use in race horses last year.  Good luck.

    New heifer!

Do I understand correctly... you are coming to Brazoria county for the jr breeding beef and open?  If so, we will be in the Pearland FFA area.  It would be neat to see those to heifers side by side because when I saw the first pictures of yours I thought it was ours!!!  Yes, the show is usually...

    New heifer!

We will have her at San Antonio and Houston (skipping Fort Worth due to school conflicts) in the near future.  Our county fair is Brazoria in October which usually has 100+ breeding beef projects.

    New heifer!

Yes, I know that flip flops are a no no, but do you have a 16 year old?  She did learn the hard way.  Luckily no serious damage to her foot, and she is wearing appropriate footwear now!
