It's summer time now and we are taking cows to pasture next week. We noticed that a few of our cows have a lot more hair that they didn't shuck. What blade/clipper combo do you use? We have our regular head clippers as well as an older "sheep" head. Also I've seen a few photos going around...

if you rent from say Lautners its $3000 for like 3 months

I had a guy tell me when I was learning that it's ok to use two straws if you aren't sure if it stuck. Semen is cheep $25-50 usually. It pays for itself even with a $1500 calf. A lot of producers goal is to get a live calf, an extra $25 is minor

Just had our Renegade Blues calf out of a roan pb shorthorn. White with black nose and black tipped ears heifer calf. Real stout and hairy weighing around upper 80s. Will post pics in a few days Really pleased with him, we will use him more this year  (clapping)

If they are good cattlemen, which they are, they will promote the best bulls. You don't see anyone complaining about everyone using Irish Whiskey, Sooner, ect.. And to be fair... its kind of hard not to use a Lautner bull when they have so man. And a lot of bulls on the market relate back to...

+1 for comfort zone We had a bull calf out of a monopoly cow. Came out about 70lbs ams was up eating pretty quick. Pretty stout for a heifer bull Just wish it was a heifer. Love the looks of them

You only need to be a 1/4 maine to be a maintainer. Ours last year was a Monopoly x 1/2 maine cow good luck!

Not only is winning a drug... showing is too. I haven't shown for a few years and my brother and sister are senior 4hers. Last year we did a bunch of winning. Our 5 year old sister just showed for the first time at Iowa Beef Expo. She is now super excited for showing not just winning  (clapping)

With the hagie family in central iowa (Cyclone Trace shorthorns) the kids do not sho pb shorthorns, they usually show a Maine, chi, cross ect...

I have heard that a few people are trying pb char bulls on their double dirty cows. Gives a char composite and they have a pretty cool look.

Take it for what you will.... But I heard that Wade has sold a bunch of his interest of MAB to Matt. Also Otto's own bulls with lautners so they are probably trading  semen for MAB.

We have a newer elite for shows and an early 2000s keifer for hauling cows. We love, our elite. Rides way smooth and pulls awesome. I'd recommend an elite, just make sure you look at all the possible options and don't rush into buying one

We got one for my 5 year old sister. Here in Iowa she will show her at a few open jackpot shows, Iowa beef expo in Feb, and the state fair in Aug. If we wanted to we could go to Kansas  City, Louisville, Denver.... All those shows as well. They just show at different times than the "main"...

My first show heifer was a pb angus heifer that we calved out from a bred cow we got from the neighbors. She wasn't anything special but she was perfect for a first year 4her. In fact I was able to win junior showmanship with her. The next year when it came time to have her calves, she aborted...
