Are the big black ones really that great. Seems like a red colored cow might soak up less sun. In theory would 100 red cows have percentage point higher pregnancy over the same exact black cows or not? Are lighter colored cattle better in this aspect? Any research been done?

Food For Thought:

Do the people that originated in hot climates around the equator tend to have darker skin or lighter skin than those that are from European descent and who's ancestors came from colder climates?
that is the pigment of the skin so they dont get burnt as easy...this is a swag but i could say a white haired cow with a black hide would be ideal because they wont get sunburnt and will absorb less heat than a black cow right??

Bart I hope you get rainand we don't have another dry year.

I saw a natgeo show the other night....they mentioned that an elephant(mammouth) could handle the cold changes better than a smaller bodied animal cause they have more mass.Maybe a big cow would have that going for it in minus 20 degrees in Canada. I guess thats why the Canadian girls like the BIG ONES. But down south I don't know.

This is an excellent article published by the American Angus Association that discusses frame size and economic merits.

Definitely worth a read.

Excellent article.  Let's not allow our big cattle on short legs become small cattle on short legs.  As a kid, our large brisket, belt buckle 4-H steers went to end of the line, deservedly so.  Later, was a "dual" bull that straightened my dad's herd out.
