Maximum hauling distance for show?

We have a lot of Saturday shows that have check-in midmorning, but have the barn open the evening before. Although I know it's better to go the day before to get calves settled in and filled up, sometimes it's not feasible. In everyone's experience, what's the maximum distance/time you would haul on the same day as the show without the cattle being too wrung out?

To me it depends a lot on how seasoned the calf is and their temperament. I've had ones that have been hauled some and are laid back enough that they drink and eat great once they get there and I wouldn't hesitate to 2 to 3 hours. I've had newbies and that are the nervous type that it seems like we should have got there 3 days before the show and hope that was enough.
