do you have any pics of his dam?
LJ,
Sorry but we don't have any pics of his dam. She's a "big" 5 frame, about 1350-1400lb., solid red, really "cowy" female that's sure not the prettiest female on the place. She has a perfect udder and always seems to hold her flesh really well. She rebreeds quickly (we intentionally moved her from Nov. to Jan.) and is just one of those no problem kind of females. As a yearling heifer, we did show her a couple of times - more to evoke a reaction from folks and to give a judge or two something to think about. She never won her class (never "pretty" enough) but every judge talked about what a great looking, practical cow prospect she was -- and they were right.
I have attached two pics of some of Leader's first calves. The pics were taken right after Christmas and the calves are both about 30 days old. It was about 24 degrees that day with a chill factor in the teens, but it didn't seem to bother these two very much. The red bull is pretty neat - great shape, more than adequate bone and a little more style that I might have expected. But we’re finding that the first Leader calves all have the same skeleton and some eye appeal.
If you’re interested in trying him, let me know. We’ve got semen collected and stored at Genex so I can get it right to you. I think if you’re looking for something to breed heifers to or to moderate birth weight in your herd, he’ll do just what you’d want and the calves so far look like they’ll perform more than adequately.
