    Opinions on Heifer

Mark, I've looked for Jake's Blue Moon but couldn't find out much about him? I-80 scares me because of his calves' hind leg structure problems people have mentioned. The only reason I mentioned Angus is because of the ease-our herd bull is an Angus that we've never had trouble with. Little...

Yeah that's what I figured. And I was wondering whether the three-way cross would be a good idea or not too. I'm probably going to stick with a bull like Breathe Easy or Tiny Tim.. or just a calving ease angus bull.

Have any of you heard anything about the Lautner bull Justified? He looks like he would throw some really good heifer calves, he's pretty maternal looking. He's PHA & TH pending though, and since my heifer is a carrier I worry about that. Also don't know what kind of birthweight we're talking...

This is hilarious! Crazy small world! And yes that beltie wasn't bad for a beltie at ALL. Some of those belties, if you judge them based on their own breed characteristics (ie. small), can hold their own with any cattle!

I am so sorry I have been absent from my own thread.. but I stopped receiving emails letting me know anyone had posted! I appreciate all of your opinions.. and I will do my best to listen (and continue researching)! I will most definitely not try to do anything crazy for her first calf. No Heat...

Thank you Mark! I just didn't appreciate someone who doesn't know me from Adam telling me to grow up when all I'm trying to do is learn. I know good and damn well that I don't have the best heifer in the world.. please. I don't have that kind of money. And I'm also not stupid enough to think...

That's not a bad idea at all! I do agree, I wish she wasn't quite so straight. But, vet school has ruined my cattle-buying budget.. so I guess I have to give somewhere! haha

1st point- I'm not sure what I said that made you feel like I wasn't taking the opinions well? I am pleased to hear everyone's opinions. If I wanted to price her or get compliments I would have posted this in the classifieds section. 2nd point- I thought I said I honestly wasn't sure about how...

    Opinions on Heifer

Sorry, I just saw your new post! I guess I can understand that, but no, she fills her tracks. As in almost kicks her front feet with her hind feet. Maybe she's a little straight hocked? That I am honestly not sure of. The judge made no mention of her structure or movement though. And as for the...

I mean this with all due respect, because I really just don't know--but what is too much muscle? Or, I guess the question is, why is it a bad thing? I understand that it takes away from her femininity but in a breeding heifer class they are judging females on their ability to produce calves that...

I will agree that she looks fat, but i swear when you get your hands on her she doesn't feel fat at all! No fat around the tailhead (hard as a rock, just muscle) and clean fronted.. i would understand the judge maybe thinking she's a little fat too though. I've been trying to give her more beet...

    Opinions on Heifer

Hi! So I purchased this heifer recently and showed her in the heifer show at the VCCP Winter Classic. She placed 6th and the only thing the judge said against her was that she had "maybe even too much muscle." I'm not sure what this means? She's still fairly deep bodied and big ribbed, fills her...

Double Vision Heifer with Trouble Walking

I have a heifer that is struggling off her back legs. She wants to swing them around fairly bad. When she gets in a tight spot & has to turn around she almost goes down on her back legs at times. She also trips occasionally as she really doesn't get her feet off the ground very well. Her front...
