Hereford bull AH JDH Cracker Jack 26U

We have used Cracker Jack on our Hereford cows and purchased some embryo calves out of him.  We have been pleased with the calves.  All have been plenty thick with enough bone.  They have some of the show ring "look", but aren't superstars in that area. What I like best about CJ is that he has...

    Hereford PPL

I've always been a fan of the TH Victor 719T bull that Genex promotes.  Also, it's a little older genetics, but NJW Wrangler 19D is one of my favorite bulls ever for producing productive females.  Younger bulls like Cracker Jack and 719T have some 19D blood in their pedigrees.

What do you look for when pick your HEREFORD 'club calf'

It may just be the angle she is standing at, but the cow's hind leg set is something to think about.  Her calf may be fine on the back wheels, but if it anything like her, you might want to be careful as the calf gets older.

End of a Legacy-MSU Hereford Dispersal

Really sad to see 2 what I consider high profile herds going out at one of the highest points for the breed in my lifetime (last 20 years give or take a few).  I was at Michigan State for the Hereford jr. PRIDE Conference this fall, and it's a great facility with a lot of history, and very...

Looking for a Judge for a show in Mississippi

Check with the folks in the Animal Science department at Mississippi State.  I know that one of the current grad students had undergrad judging experience, and she has judged a couple sheep and goat shows in Mississippi.  And she has a cattle background and really enjoys the livestock industry.

Calling all Atlanta Area Cowfolks. Can you spare a smile for Banks Ready?

I went to school with Banks at Mississippi State the past 3 years.  He was always a lot of fun to be around, and he had plenty of good stories to tell everyone.  He definitely needs prayers from everyone out there!

    animal science universities

As someone who graduated from undergrad this past May, I will share my perspective here in hopes that it gives you something useful. I was raised in the Deep South and wanted to stay fairly close to home for school, and I wanted to go into animal science.  I chose Mississippi State which was...

    animal science universities

I have a very good friend who goes to the University of Wyoming in Animal Sci, and I think he would tell you to go elsewhere.  He has not been satisfied with his time there, but the money keeps him there.

    th in herfords?

As a Hereford breeder, I think there are some cattle out there that have some "funny business" going on that are marketed/shown as Herefords.  I'm not against the Carpe Diem type stuff when it comes to show steers.  I think it's great to see a lot of Hereford-influenced steers in the show ring...

How much part does a recip play?

I may be wrong, but I wouldn't think that a recip would have effect on the calf other than providing nutrients.  The embryo she is carrying is not hers, so I wouldn't think that she could influence anything in the calf's development that should be determined by the calf's genetic makeup.  But I...
