    Some steers we looked at.

I also originally liked the 109. But in posting these pics realized half of the calves I picked were actually heifers. Haha. Should have paid more attention.

    Some steers we looked at.

Thanks. :) I will def repost them as soon as I get to a comp. the first two in the album and the third in the album is another pic of #159. I was partial to 159 because he seems to have more style but lacks some power. There is another steer that I didnt get to see yet that I'm told is pretty...

    Some steers we looked at.

Hey, It's been a while since I posted. No cows for me yet. That will be a graduation gift. Been so busy with upper-level courses in university. Meanwhile, we went to go look at steers. I showed a pic to my younger brother who I was able to convince to get one this year, so another trip for a...

    What does everybody think??????

The white font for the mouseover on the white background isn't the best idea. I can picture some #notasknowledgableabouttechnology folks having a hard time with that. Otherwise, I like the site. :)....esp the colours.

    Quick Update

Been a bit busy lately, but thought I would post a quick update. This steer is ~1100 #. This is the most weight and fat we have been able to put on a Purebred Limi up til now...so we are happy. :) Not a special pic. Didn't have the camera with me. Next time, I will be sure to take a camera and...

    Linebreading VS. Inbreeding

Well, fertility is a function of several factors - health, nutrition, management, soundness etc. Heterosis is literally a condition of having different genes. If the genes you introduce improve the factors of fertility, then it is possible to increase fertility. If the introduced genes worsen...

    Linebreading VS. Inbreeding

Interesting responses. I thought there might have been more accurate responses given the history of domestication of livestock and the extent to which both methods of selection are used in the cattle industry and even more so in the show cattle industry. Inbreeding: A systematic program of...

Slicker Brush Poodle Card -- How do you use it?

Found this trick out by accident last yr when I went straight from sheep show to steer show and had the brush still in my back pocket. They pull up and fluff hair like nothing else. I've found it especially helpful training legs. Stiffer bristles work better... Just like sheep and dogs. I found...

How popular are Speckle Park cattle

We usually get one or two at our local show. Of the 5 that I recall being shown, all 4 steers and 1 heifer took first in their classes. This one was 2 years ago. 1st place in the smallest weight class. This one was the year before and took Grand Champion. It was like running your hands over...

    Some new steers!

Just came back from holiday home visit. Brought the camera down to the barn...there was a warm spell, the snow melted and now they are a bit muddy. This one came down with a case of ringworm...not pretty. This guy thinks he already won: Have only managed to get them up to 16 lbs of...

    Fitting bulls vs. steers

Going to be showing bulls and a heifer for the first time in the upcoming season. I'm wondering if there is anything you do when fitting steers that you wouldn't do when fitting a bull or vice versa? How about with Heifers?
