    County Show = Popularity Contest

I've thought about this topic a lot today as my kids worked in the barn on their heifer projects.  green8911 - I would ask you to put yourself in my place for a moment: 1) my kids show heifers, so are not allowed to even sell in the "bonus" 4-H livestock auction.  The fact that your son has the...

THIS IS WHAT 17 SLEDDING AUSSIES LOOK LIKE!

We have 2 litters of aussie pups...17 total!  Figured the best way to contain them for a photo was in the sled...so on Christmas day, they all went sledding :)

    Cattle Junky T's

Ordered something from them a couple years ago but never received the item and they never replied to my multiple calls and emails.  Finally figured I'd invested more time into trying to contact them and get the issue resolved than the item was worth so I just wrote it off as a loss.

    Stock Show University

Highly recommend...not only for the fitting, but even more so for the clipping.  My two boys attended the one in Muscatine in December and we were super impressed.  Lots of hands-on, one-on-one instruction.

Hats off to the Line Family

That's awesome!  They're a great family and took three cool steers to the IL State Fair.  Happy that they came out on top this year!  The 10% donation is very fitting indeed.

    Best County Fairs

The Mercer County Fair in Aledo has to be one of the toughest in Illinois.  Three steers in the grand drive at IL Beef Exo were from Mercer County (Champion & Reserve were from Mercer).  And the Champion Shorthorn Jr Show Heifers at the Illinois State Fair the last two years were from two...

    Getting Personalized Caps Made

Highly recommend Twisted Stitch: http://twistedstitch1.com/ They're at a lot of major shows.  Their designs appear more dimensional than just the view of the side of a calf on a cap.  Very creative and professional!

    Some questions about breech calves

Firesweepranch-we had same issue last night.  Calf was back feet first but after using the jack, the calf still wouldn't budge.  Vet did a c-section.  Mama is fine today but calf is still fighting tight tendons and back pasterns buckling, plus his back legs are folding sideways.  Last night calf...

    shorthorn cows

I agree with shortii...Myrtle Bo is our all-time FAVE cow family.  Our two best show heifers have been Myrtle Bos.  And one of them was flushed...39 eggs from 3 flushes.  "Fertile Myrtle" :-)

Interesting reading on Sullivan flyer !!!!!

"Show cattle are less then 5% of the total beef industry. No real beef cattle business will tolerate calving issues at birth.. none.  Sorry I just dont take advice from a show ring breeder." from, Sue. I have found it interesting, in the short period of time that I've followed this forum, the ...

    Ft Worth.

Jeff - when I read that blog post yesterday I laughed out loud, and made sure my husband read it last night.  It was an ironic, humorous spin on every kids' reply, "I'm using it for college".  LOVED IT!

    Missouri AGR

In the past, we've been able to leave after the heifer show, so would assume that's the case.  Showmanship does follow the heifer show on Saturday.

Stock Show University Complimentary Grad Program & Clipping Clinic Dec 28 - 29

Ditto that!  This was definitely the best clinic we've ever experienced.  Both boys had a day and a half of HANDS-ON clipping, with almost one-on-one instruction by Josh Elder, can't get any better than that!  And what a great crowd....they fed 220 people lunch on Wednesday.  They actually...
