JMO, if your target show is before September I would stick with working the hair you already have. April 1 slickshearing I'm afraid wouldn't give you enough time to get the regrowth of hair that your hoping for. You are north of us though so I would suggest that you ask your "locals".
I believe the only breed that has remained true to itself is Red Angus. As of today I have yet to see any show updates that proclaim a Heatwave or Monopoly sired calf as champion Red Angus steer or heifer. Good for you all in the Red Angus breed.
