We used him on a few cows this past spring, and have one on the ground so far...super thick, 78 pounds, and looks the part.  Time will tell, but we took a gamble as we had heard through a friend of a friend that had seen him.  So far, so good.  Hope we get a few more in the next couple of weeks.

Most shows do have a final drive for bulls...not winning grand still should not take away from the fact that an individual was previously named a division champion.

My thoughts on this are as follows:  If you haul to a show, only to find out that you are the only one entered in that division, class, etc. and the show gives awards for said class or division, and the judge believes that your calf, hog, lamb, or whatever is worthy of receiving that award, then...

It appears that the birthdate is 2010 with the 0 crossed out to make a 1 and the owners and ranch name are spelled different.

I have seen a lot of carcasses in my life.  Generally, yellow fat can be attributed to the diet of the cattle being slaughtered.  If they are on a grain ration, the fat tends to be white.  Those cattle that are sustained on a diet of roughage  or those kept on pasture tend to have a more yellow...

yeah, agreed on 98% of the bulls.  I was typing and thinking at the same time.  In my head I was thinking about most all bull calves going to the feedlot, and typing 50% of the dairy calves born, and the typing and thinking blended together making me look like I didn't know what I was talking...

Unless it is labeled Angus (which really isn't that accurate either...i.e. 51% black hided), much of the beef that is consumed in this country comes from the dairy industry.  What else do you do with the approximately 50% of the bull calves born on dairies each year?

if indeed only two of the eight were actually TH, then the gamble probably pays off.  However, we are talking about a 50/50 chance that both her and the sire pass on the TH gene.  Neither may, one could, or both might...everytime.  remember that it is possible in a flush that every embryo gets...

Took some pics of the calves two weeks ago.  I love when they give you a cocky pose like this guy did!  Little young for what we do, but pretty cool none the less.
