Getting goats to eat and gain weight

This is our first year raising meat goats and we are struggling to get the goats to eat as much as we would like and we are falling behind on weight gain.  Any ideas for supplements that we can use to increase their intake and rate of gain.  The goats have been wormed and seem to be doing OK but...

    Help with a new calf

We had a calf born on Wednesday to a first calf heifer.  The delivery seemed to be fine, but that is the last of what is normal.  Mother has little or no milk (?) so we are bottle feeding the calf.  Need advice on any treatment/shots that we should give the calf since she got very little if any...

    Lifeline calf color

We have used Lifeline 5 or 6 times the past 3-4 years.  We have always had predominately black calves with some white on them.  Is there any possible way for him to sire a calf that is red?  Had a heifer calf yesterday that is most red, white socks on rear legs, white star on head and white...

    Twins

We have a cow that calved on Saturday, nice bull calf.  The cow did not clean right away but my vet said to be patient.  On Wednesday evening I checked the cow and she had cleaned and I had already seen her bull calf so everything seemed to be normal.  Last night we noticed something unusual in...

    White Boy calves

The calf pictured in my avatar is a White Boy out of a Black Impact cow.  This picture was taken in October when she was 5 months old.  Am waiting for a White Boy out of a WMW cow.  Should calve any day now.  I am planning to breed the BI cow with White Boy again this year.

My BVD-PI test results came back

We have tested all of the calves for the last two years.  State law indicates that any cattle used for exhiitions or shows of any kind must be negative for BVD.  Our vet takes ear notches and then they are sent to the state lab, cost is $10 per test.

    Cough Medicine

Delsym works the best for me.  Vicks is the best for helping ease the congestion as well.  Warm whiskey with honey will also work.  If you are really desperate you can do what my aunt did to me and the cousins when we got a sore throat "back in the day".  She would swab our throat with...
