    Calf pictures /Breeding choice decision

I appreciate the comments... the calf's sire was KSSR Full Speed.  Unfortunately he did something dumb this past fall, and is no more.  We considered Trademark, but are trying to level her out a bit (weak right behind the shoulders), and didn't think he would add in that area.  We are going to...

    Calf pictures /Breeding choice decision

I'm challenged greatly by technology... so please excuse the family style photos.  Trying to decide between Cut Above or Ebony's Grandmaster for this Star Power daughter's 2nd calf.  Calf is 11 weeks old in picture and 3 weeks into recovery from a hernia repair...

    Disrespectful teacher

We have pointed out to various unsupportive teachers that FFA and 4H garnered our eldest daughter over 50 thousand in college scholarships...and what can they offer to equal that?  However, we did have an AP English teacher comment on one child's essay that she thought she must be spending too...

    Valentine baby

Heifer is doing really well.  Ill try to get more pictures soon.  Her momma had us a bit worried.  We were trying to keep her on some feed since she's going to the Houston Jr. Show, but she is just producing way to much milk.  Bag was red and warm (early mastitis?) and huge!  When she'd get up...

feeding show heifer in last weeks of pregnancy

Good news, she was palpated last night and everything seems to be on track.  Vet said she didn't feel all fat inside either so I guess we will just keep feeding the same, and plan to induce if she hasn't delivered  by 2 days after her due date (providing everything feels "right" upon palpation...

feeding show heifer in last weeks of pregnancy

She didn't stick AI, so we ended up on a registered simmental bull used for calving ease in a commercial herd.  They've never had to assist any of the cows/heifers he has bred (mixed herd of simmental, angus, brahmans).  We stressed that we didn't necessarily want a big named sire for this 1st...

    Special prayer/thought request

ouch!  Those poor kids.  I just had a fourth grader watch his alcoholic father die in front of him.  He is in total denial.  I hope your students are getting counseling!

feeding show heifer in last weeks of pregnancy

Simmental heifer turned 2 this week.  She will be shown at Ft. Worth, San Antonio, and hopefully Houston. All in the jr. shows.  Due to calve on Feb. 24.  She is definately not fat at this point.  Currently feeding purina full control mixed 50/50 with purina/honors finisher.  She won't eat the...

    Special prayer/thought request

I just wanted to say thanks to anyone who has prayed for my neighbor, Logan.  He is doing very well, and we are hopeful that he will be home by Jan.6th.  He still has a long way to go ... and plenty of physical therapy... his latest surgical procedure was on his elbow (nothing like getting a...

    Oxy-gen and Related Products

We used Famininity HP a few years back.  Heifer looked great and had much improved hair.  However, she ended up cystic and after 18 months of messing with that with no luck, she was shipped.  Not saying it was the product, but we have never used it again, and no breeding problems.

    Special prayer/thought request

Our neighbor's son, Logan, was involved in a very serious motorcycle accident.  He has received well over 60 units of blood and had more than 47 surgical procedures in the last 30 days.  Yesterday, all of his toes were amputated as well as two other procedures 1 to insert yet another chest tube...

    Ft Worth steer show

Not to hikack your thread, but on a related note:  Does the exhibitor have to walk the heifer through at check in?  Trying to figure out how to work this with a high school musical performance on the same day as check in for the jr. show.

    A.I service around Houston, Texas

I wouldn't use Knape if you can find someone else... not complaining about their skill, just being practical.  They leave when it is quitting time and get their at starting time and if your heifer isn't ready to be bred during office hours you will be spending money for nothing.  Check with your...

Which feed supplement will work best?

We used oxygen and feminity hp on a heifer (simmental) a couple of years ago.  Definately seemed to help give her a full bodied look.  She did very well her first year showing, but became cystic and after 18 months of trying to get her bred she became hamburger.  Haven't used either product again.
