Zach for moderator! 8)

Zach I say this with the deepest of affection for Red and know that no one could totally replace her. But you have that ability to see both sides like she did. Yes, like her you will have times when you make a wrong move but it will be an honest attempt at being fair. That is all that can be asked. But I mean it. We need an active moderator. Not to say that others can't do it too. But you have shown it.

Are you listening Jason? :)

Sorry SD. I wasn't in when a lot of the bashing went on today. I would echo Zach much if I posted right now.  I also don't know if I could have shown restraint like Zach.  Everyone does need to step back and really read what you're saying.  You're staying this stuff to REAL people, not a computer.  I have the utmost respect for DL and also Ms. Major, and also SWMO and none of them are the ones arguing here.  Steerjockey is a fine man, and is currently helping me locate a heifer.  He is nothing but helpful and respectful, and he doesn't deserve the bashing he gets.  I think that Zach would be a fine moderator, he's kind of already stepped up and done some very moderator-ish things. I'm proud to have a young person that's morally inclined to speak up on the board.

OFS It is hard for a moderator to be on all the time. I should have said Zach would make a great addition to the moderator team. Cause there really isn't a bad one in the bunch.

It's also hard to know how far to let the discussion run before it goes over the cliff. I know in the past that topics have been frozen or pulled for going to far. But sometimes it needs to be done. Not saying this one should or shouldn't have been, but a warning might have been needed to be issued.

I completely agree SD. I have a hard time with deciding whether to lock a topic or step in, because I don't wanna seem like a bully or the "big bad moderator" type that some "other" boards seem to have.  Sometimes it looks like the discussion will fix itself, and then someone will jump in and make it worse, and then before you know it, it's an all-out pissing match.  I'm still gettin the hang of this, and I'll have to remember to check in when I'm not out in the barn more during the day  :p

Zach, you are an outstanding member of the "Young Guns", as our generation was dubbed long ago on SP.

Thank you Zach, well said. I have always felt that this board was a good place to get questions answered. When I ask a question about a bull, or any other topic for that matter, I appreciate all the responses, good and bad. Please keep giving them, and I hope I am mature enough to make up my own mind. There is no need to bash each other for what is said about a bull. I know it must hurt the owners at the time, but the truth will come out in the end. Thanks again Zach, and everyone else on here, keep posting. Earl

Also notice how a few well placed words can make the topic break in the right direction. (We all should take notice of that too!)

Good donkey, good donkey! ;)

We all need to remember that sometimes our attitude comes through with the word choices we make and, ufortunately, attitude always speaks louders than the actual content of the words.  If we learn to use the language we speak and write correctly, we can still make our point without being overtly accusatory or as one of my friends says "peeing in someone else's cheerios".

IMHO, too many people on SP make general observations based on a very small sample of events rather than understand that what they see as a major event in their individual operation is actually a very small, possibly isolated, incident.  This is true in regard to breeding characteristics of a bull, genetic defects, sexual preferences of humans, etc.  Our goal on SP should be to help each other with our shared interests not lambast someone else's opinions.  Everybody should be mature enough not to overtly bash other people's livestock or opinions and still show what their particular preferences are.  I don't believe anyone intentionally planned to bash anyone else or their stock on this post but its become personal between a few people who are not even directly involved in the original situation.  Everybody take a deep breath, step back,  and think about your responses a little more before you post them.  I'm not saying we need to be politically correct--just cordial with one another.    In other words, lets focus on winning the overall war not winning the battle of words on any particular topic.  Most of these arguments involve the same people over and over again and frankly I've grown tired of the "one upsmanship" that always deteriorates into personal insults.  Its just not necessary or productive.  JMHO

Thanks Lynn. Very well stated. I find myself not commenting as much as I would like to sometimes in fear of retribution. Honestly, this board has helped us greatly in picking sires to use by others input. I hope that we  can continue speaking our opinions although be it with respect towards the PPL/promoters of their sires. That being said, if you have a bull that is collected and  being  promoted, it's not going to be all roses & sunshine. If PPL don't care for your bull/cattle try to take it with a grain of salt. If you like the calves that you raise, in the long run that is all you can expect. Others may or may not like them.

I find myself commenting knowing i will be ignored. i think retribution is more respectful.  i guess on the respect scale, they are about equal.

Trust me Knabe, I am not ignoring you, you are way above my head as far as intelligence goes and I don't always understand what you are talking about.  That is right, I am not afraid to admit when I don't understand something! ;D

lowest in my family.  probably why i'm always seeking validation.  from what i remember, it's around 110, kinda average (not real good at some types of puzzles).  my aunt used to give those tests.  my brother is around 130, everyone else is around 120.

FWIW, I don't think IQ tests are a good measure of someone's intelligence.  I score pretty well, but I know a LOT of what I consider exceptionally intelligent people that don't have a super high IQ.

I know I don’t post much, I let the experts do that but I have been Observing, Lurking or learning since before the Showsteers forum died. I only have 3 cows so I would rather learn what I can and offer advice only when I think I can help. I do believe this is the best forum; Breedersworld has way too many people on it that would rather attack than share information. ClubCalves had a bunch hot heads that just like to bash the people in Ohio that win shows.

I don’t remember what happened with DL that puts so many people on the offense but it almost seems to be an automatic thing. Maybe it is the way your post comes across, most of the time you are just trying to help somebody but you have the ability to sure ruffle feathers. It seems to me your heart is in the right place. Just the way you go about it sure fires people up.

Cowboy and Knabe, always like your post and have learned a lot from you both.

Here is the deal, this forum is a place to discuss cattle, the good the bad and the ugly, I think it would behoove everyone to make sure and word things carefully when you are bringing up possible problems with a bull, breeder, trader, or breed. If what is being stated is fact there is really no reason to be offended if you do not come across as attacking. People need to be aware there is a problem as long as there is proof of a problem, not hearsay or barn talk but facts.

Enjoy the board and everyone on it.
