    Professional Fitters

AJSA is a great thing and the "Junior Nationals" are a wonderful experience for the juniors. But it really pisses me off that there are people that think it's okay to bring a professional fitter ...while their kids stand around watching him fit for them. Tacky and totally unprofessional.

    Smokey Simmy Heifer

Smokey Simmy Heifer I have a good smokey purebred Simmental heifer available.  Good bone, DOB 3-10-12.  Sire was a Drake bred bull, dam is a Fleck influenced cow.  Too nice for the auction barn!  $1200.00.  Please e-mail me if you'd like more pictures.  Located in Central Texas.   ...

    Cordless clippers?

I've had a set for years.  Bought them when they first came out.  They come in handy if you need to make a few "repairs" waiting at the ring, but otherwise not so much.  I have three batteries, so it's no problem having enough time, but they are awkward to handle until you get used to them...

    Sullivans Grill Brick?

That's funny... we used to use those 15 years ago.  They only work well on slick cattle, but nothing works better on a Brahman. I didn't think Sully's even carried them anymore.

    Midwest Made Sale

Interesting though... they didn't run the cattle through the ring, just used video screens.  Here are the ones you asked about:  Lot 4 - $7,000.  Lot 11A was $5,200 (Shoal Creek bought this one).  Lot 14 - $8,750.  I bought lot 15.  Lot 18 - $5,700.  Lot 24 - $ 1,800.  Lot 33 - $2,500.  I...

    guyer sale

That is nuts!  I don't get spending that kind of money on a steer?  What happens if the calf doesn't win somewhere?  What if he goes off his feed and doesn't finish on time?  I have to say the steer "business" is pretty much out of control in my opinion.  It sure makes it hard for hard working...

    Midwest Made Sale

Lol... yup Shoal Creek did get some nice ones.  He was bidding against me more than once.  But they have deeper pockets and more hay than I have.  <cowboy>

    upgrade calves

There were some Upgrade heifers in the Midwest Made sale yesterday.  Open heifers. They were good, but not the high sellers. Personally I don't think he's going to have as much of an impact a hoped. We'll have to see what the females do as they begin to produce.

    Midwest Made Sale

There were a BUNCH of heifers in the sale, and not many breds.  The prices were pretty much what they've been like at every other sale in the past few months.  10% go really high, and drop substantially from there.  Not a lot of "mid range" things.  Some good type heifers that sold under $2500. ...

    Texas showers, please help!

If you have a special situation like this, the Texas majors are good about working with you on early releases.. especially for juniors.

    Hudson Pines

I thought the sale was down this year.  After the "usual" high sellers, the rest of the stuff went lower than I've seen. There were some competitive heifers that went under $3500. The economy sucks for most people.. it's hard to justify spending a bunch on cattle right now. And of course here in...

    Sullivan's Sale

Thank you for the link to last year's results.  They were high!  Understandably so, but as I said, I'm not a Shorty breeder, so I can't justify that much for one.  I'm not sure if the results were all just open heifers?  What about the breds?

    Sullivan's Sale

Just looked at the Sullivan's sale catalog... they sure have some great females!  I'm curious... I'm not a Shorthorn breeder, so I don't keep up with the sales, but generally speaking, what are the prices like?  I'm sure the show heifers are sky high, but what about the bred heifers and cows? ...

Dead calves - need opinions on cause

I would think after spending the $$ for a decent cow, you would spend the $$ to have the cow / dead calf checked out?  It's relatively inexpensive to have a vet "post" the calf, unfortunately you would have had to have it done within about 12 hours  of the calf dying... which is water under the...

    Grinning happily :-)

Firesweep.. so glad to hear you're getting rain!  I'm between Waco and College Station, and counted 7 drops of rain on the windshield when I went out to feed the heifers down the road.  We do have severe weather warnings until 10 this evening, but nothing here so far.  PLEASE RAIN.. I'm down to...

Bidder fraud at Vicklands online sale?

Twisted.. I really appreciate you getting involved with the transaction for Simmyman!  He's a personal friend of mine, and one of THE FINEST young showman I have met in recent years.  If this guy had screwed him out of his Simbrah heifer I would have personally thumped his head for him. I hate...
