Brothers Take Home Top Steer Honors

Those two are not brothers...they are first cousins.  Older of the two won grand last year with exoctic class winner.  Reserve  grand was a little girl from Martinsville with AOB class winner.  Thanks for the kind words about my boys.  I am pretty fond of them and proud of all they have...

    County-bred restricted shows?

I have a cousin who lives in NW Houston (Cypress) and they draw lots and pick their steers from a group of steers that the ag teachers purchase.  Number 1 gets first pick, etc.  There is a fee but I don't know what they pay to participate.  I believe it is a school district only show with 6 or 7...

Brothers Take Home Top Steer Honors

I know that our county show isn't a major show but as a parent who has kids participate in cattle shows, the outcome of our county show was both exciting and humbling.  The attached article details what happened.  http://dailysentinel.com/news/article_f14e2a94-5691-11e0-9d3d-001cc4c03286.html

Picture of my daughter's Angus steer in Fort Worth

Beautiful animal.  Wishing you good luck in Houston!  We feel your pain at our house.  Oldest son was in class 2 light weight exotic.  70-80 in his class.  He was pulled and ended up placing 14 out of 22 pulled.  Doing the same...slicking him (the steer, not the boy)  and rolling on to Houston. ...

    Steer Exhibitors at Ft. Worth

You gotta understand...we are from East Texas.  An inch of snow does seem like a blizzard to my kids!  LOL!  They probably haven't seen snow but half-a-dozen times in their lives!  Compare today's weather to yesterdays...my boys couldn't get their steers to dry because the calves were sweating...

    Steer Exhibitors at Ft. Worth

My boys left with the ag teacher at about 11:00 last night.  Got to FW about 3:00 this morning.  Received a call from them at 5:40 this morning and there was an inch of snow on the ground and oldest son said it looked like a blizzard.  Husband left at 10:30 this morning to try and get up there...

    HAIR !!!!

We have had our fair share of white cattle and the best "shampoo" we have found to keep them white is any dishwashing soap that has "Oxy" power.  Dawn makes a good oxy dishwashing soap.  Of course, you can't let your calf lay in it's own poop and pee and expect it to stay white so keeping the...

Lumberjack Invitational Steer and Heifer Show

If your animals need any real heavy duty washing, make sure you do it at home.  This is an equine facility and there are not any good washing facilities. Also, there is  limited access to water.  There are water faucets on each end of the barn and a few behind the barn and that is it.  We live...

    Steer show pics

My sincere apologies to the above forementioned family for my quoted post.  Upon re-reading my post, I realize I sounded a bit jealous and bitter. That was not my intentions at all.  We respect their hard work and have enjoyed competing against them and visiting with them at various shows in our...

    Steer show pics

The red and white steer is from Steerplanet's own Olsen Cattle Company.  I believe he is a Tank X HooDoo (my husband is the one to ask).  He weighed 1250 in that pic.  The Olsen's have pics on Steerplanet of some steers that they have for sale that are just as good, if not better than our steer.

Absolutely!  We were so proud!  He was the youngest competitor to scramble.  He is 12.

    Steer show pics

The exoctic/exocticX class winner won Grand Champion.  It was reported that the parents paid $11,000 for the calf.  The calf only brought $6,000 in the premium sale. Our show has become dominated by one family that has 3 grandchildren who show each year.  Kind of excessive for a county show...

    What books are you reading?

Just finished the last Twilight book this afternoon.  Read one a weekend for the last 4 weekends.  I thought it was going to be pretty silly but I really liked all of them.  Can't wait until the next one!  I was told it was about Jacob!

Houston 2009 Scramble and Heifer pictures

I have a Canon SI 5S that has 8 Mega pixels and an 18X optical zoom.  I don't think I used a flash.  I did however use the function for taking sports or action pictures instead of using "AUTO" function.    I find I get much better results that way.

Houston 2009 Scramble and Heifer pictures

Here are some pics of the Houston Calf Scramble that my oldest son participated in.  Some of you had expressed curiosity about the event so I thought I would post a few pics.  I also included pics of the boys with their heifers while they were in the show ring.  Thanks for looking!
