Shorthorn $ figures now have % rankings

The 23J cow looks to be the real deal. She is still in production, calf at side, and being flushed. You should post a picture of your 05X, he looks good

Shorthorn $ figures now have % rankings

Interesting to see that Conquest rises to the top again for calving ease. Yet so many parties claim to have the "best" shorthorn heifer bull. I say that 71 is a pretty high number. Not to mention top 1% for the maternal index and still maintaining a top 25% for $F. What am I missing? Thanks for...

    Below average Angus Bull?

This bull is an anomily. He weighed 1860 on the 29th of Feb in a group thataveraged 1420.He is still gaining 3.8 lbs. /day and has done so since weaning on a ration targeted for 3/day. His back feet are nearly flawless in design. It is just interesting to me as how many people are unwilling to...

    Loving Farms Sale

Lot 13 sold for 12,500 to Merle Welch in MO. Yep, the same Merle Welch of Green Ridge. He is still running around it sounds like. He bought 2 bulls I think.

    Angus Bull

Interesting. I have never known many OCC bred cattle that had anything but average milk. The word holstein certainly doesn't come to mind. They usually are on the lower end of the growth curve as well. Always offering adequate performance, adequate milk and exceptional phenotype and...

    Angus Outcross bull

i I double dog dare anyone to use him on heifers. I guess a -4 CED is nothing to worry about? I personally would prefer to use a bull that weighed 100 lbs. at birth with a double digit calving ease direct than a negative number CED and a 70 lb. actual. But I make mistakes every day too... FWIW

    Below average Angus Bull?

Interested in thoughts on this bull. He is an EXT son out of a cold pedigreed, low numbered, pathfinder cow. His numbers are mostly below breed average in most traits. He has individual performance that is way above average for the herd he was raised in and posted a 17.8 REA that adjusted to...

    Angus Bull

I guess I will add a bit here. He does look really thick, deep and even pretty soggy. However, it appears that he is extremely short hipped and very rounded in his rump structure. I am not familiar with this in many Angus cattle. Simply an observation.

    What am I?

Garybob, I enjoy selling bulls like this, I am not really sure he is the best red bull we have on offer. I have a cherokee canyon son that is pretty solid, but this bull is so good in the front. I have had really great acceptance with the half blood bulls. I will certainly keep a semen interest...

Did the shorty heifer bull topic get pulled off??

Yep, that would be a true statemnet. You at least need to wear reading glasses!

    JSF Addicted semen

The JR Adelaide 31G cow is still alive as well. She doesn't winter as well as she used to, but then not too many 14 year old cows will that recieve nosupplement at all. She grazed out all winter on stalks and froze out hay regrowth. Perhaps I should breed her to Medicine Man for one last shot...

A true heifer bull. -5.7 BEPD and +14.3 CED.

    Favorite Heifer Bull

I still am a believer in JR Conquest 62K for shorthorns. Thay are not big and get up and go. Females make nice cows that mature early and don't get so darn big. Two pics attatched. The first one is the day I bought him back from a commercial customer that used him 3 years and realized he was...

early morning calving cks have begun

I spent a lot of my early life driving through winter pasture,  walking through sagebrush etc. with spotlight in hand. When I turned 40, I quit. Calving 103 heifers this year and go check in the morning and again in the afternoon. They are on cornstalks so we don't feed, but most calves tend to...

This is his sire (alleged anyway). Lorenzen Santiam Rebel 6403.

    What am I?

Well, at least I'm not the only one! My records tell me he is out of a shorthorn cow and a Red Angus bull. He is really red for this Red Angus bull though. I think I was kinda hoping he was a purebred, I could use a bull with that much base width. Isn't that a really beautifully constructed...

    What am I?

I took this picture today of this calf for our sale, and am questioning my calving book. Is he a Shorthorn or a Durham Red? I will parent test him, but thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thinks>

    Shorty hf bulls

I think one should be really careful before you use American Muscle on heifers. I have yet to see a calf under 110 lbs. They wouldn't work in many western scenarios. Possibly if you keep them in the lot and monitor them pretty closely you may get by.
